The Competition Council welcomes Representatives of the Moldavian Competition Authority

On 19 and 20 September, the Competition Council (CC) of Latvia welcomes eight delegates from the Moldavian competition authority. During the study visit, representatives of the CC will introduce the foreign delegates with Latvian Competition law and its application in practice, the most common signs of prohibited agreements within public procurements, as well as with human rights issues concerning gathering of electronic evidence.

Exchange of experience and information between national competition authorities is essential. Such cooperation allows to improve not only the application competition rules at a national level, but also to address competition related issues at an international level and strive for equal opportunities for market participants to operate within free and fair competition.

The Chairwoman of the CC, Ms Skaidrīte Ābrama says “we are pleased that Moldavian colleagues are willing to take over our experience particularly in the context of cartel combat. We hope, our proactive approach in training organizers of public procurements and disclosing cartel agreements will improve Moldavian colleagues’ working methods, thus protecting more efficiently interests of Moldavian entrepreneurs and consumers as well as those of foreign entrepreneurs active on Moldavian market, including those from Latvia”.

In 2010-2012, in the context of the European Commission’s programme Twinning the CC in cooperation with the Austrian competition authority carried out a project for implementation of competition policy and strengthening the capacity of public administration. Results achieved allowed the project to be recognized as one of the most successful examples of international cooperation and to point out its positive impact on the Moldavia’s national economic development.
