• 2020.
    • 1st of January: amendments in the Competition Law, which in future give the CC more effective powers to address distortions of competition caused by public person - state, local governments and capital companies owned by them - come into force.
    • 14th of September: Juris Gaiķis starts to perform the office duties of the Chairman of the Competition Council. 
  • 2019. 
    • The Competition Council receive the highest award in the competition organised by the World Bank Group and the International Competition Network for the proposed opening of the competition market for the technical state of vehicles for free competition.
  • 2017.
    • 1st of November: amendments in the Competition Law and the Civil Procedure Law, which makes it easier to compensate for damages caused by infringements of competition law. 
  • 2016.
    • 1st of January: The Competition Council begins control the Unfair Retail Trade Practices Prohibition Law, which aims to balance the market power of retailers and suppliers. 
    • 15th of June: amendments to the Competition Law, which substantially modernise the application of competition law in Latvia, come into force. The amendments not only expand entrepreneurs' opportunities but also the Competition Council's rights. 
  • 2015.
    • The Competition Council placed in the prestigious Global Competition Review for the first time, ranking of the world's leading competition authorities, receiving the high three-star rating and entering among the best 40 competition authorities in the world. The Competition Council also holds itspositions in the ranking in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
  • 2012. 
    • 1st of January: The Competition Council commences participation in the OECD Competition Committee as an observer. This enables acquisition of international expertise and participation in the shaping of international economic policy;
    • 12th of February: Skaidrīte Ābrama is appointed in the Chairperson of the Competition Council.
  • 2008.
    • 16th of April: Comprehensive amendments to the Competition Law take affect. Some of the more important ones include introducing a special framework to regulate the relations between producers/suppliers and major retailers; the option to terminate a legal dispute by the way of an administrative contract.
  • 2006.
    • 15th of February: Ieva Jaunzeme is appointed to the Chairperson of the Competition Council.
  • 2004.
    • 1st of May: As Latvia joins the European Union, the competition legislation of the European Commission becomes directly applicable in Latvia. From this moment on, thee Latvian Competition Council is also charged with the effective monitoring of EU internal market rules and integration in the cooperation and information networks of the EU competition monitoring authorities.
  • 2002.
    • 1st of January- Competition Law currently in force takes effect.
  • 1998.
    • 1st of January- the Competition Law takes effect; 
    • 14th of January: The Competition Council is formed by a Cabinet order. Pēteris Vilks is appointed the first Chairperson of the Council.
  • 1997.
    • 18th of June: the Competition Law is adopted, thus making a significant step towards bringing together the Latvian regulatory framework of competition monitoring and the policy implemented in this field by the European Union.
  • 1992.
    • 1st of February: the Law of Competition and Restriction of Monopolies enters into force, and the Department of the Monitoring of Monopolies  and promotion of Competition under the ministry of Economic Reform commences operations;
    • 12th of November: The Monopoly monitoring Committees formed pursuant to a Council of Ministers decision.
  •  1991.
    • 21st of August: Latvia regains independence;
    • 3rd of December: the Law of Competition and Restriction of Monopolies is adopted.
