Līga Daugaviete appointed as the Member of the Competition Council; the term of office is extended also for Jānis Račko



On 13 November, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed Ms Līga Daugaviete in the position of the Member of the Competition Council of Latvia (the CC). The Cabinet of Ministers also adopted a decision to appoint Mr Jānis Račko for the second term of office in the position of the Member of the CC.

In August 2018, performing of office duties was ceased at his own will by the Council Member CC Ivars Kassalis. Open competition was announced for the vacant position. Having examined all candidates, the competition commission recognized Līga Daugaviete as the most appropriate candidate for the position. The commission highly appreciated the understanding of competition law by L. Daugaviete, her job experience in the public and private sector, as well as her analytical skills and managerial experience.

L. Daugaviete has acquired the professional lawyer's degree and Master's degree in administrative law at the University of Latvia, whereas at Riga Graduate School of Law she acquired the Master's degree in European and international law.

L. Daugaviete has lawyer's job experience since 1999. Previously she held the position of the Head of the Energy Affairs Legal Provision Division of the Public Utilities Commission, the position of the Legal Adviser of the Legal Affairs, and the Head of the Electricity Trade Legal Affairs Sub-Unit at AS “Latvenergo”. L. Daugaviete also has been the Board Member of AS “Enerģijas publiskais tirgotājs”, whereas since May 2016 until now she holds the position of the Legal Director of AS “Enerģijas publiskais tirgotājs”.

Concurrently, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a decision to appoint J. Račko for the second term of office in the position of the Member of the CC, as his first term of office will expire on 15 January 2019. Based on the proposal by the Chairwoman of the CC Skaidrīte Ābrama, the Ministry of Economics has approved extension of his office for the second term in order to observe the principles of good governance, preserve operational efficiency of the CC at the highest level and promote fulfilment of objectives of the authority.
