Despite the insufficient resources of the authority, the Competition Council of Latvia (the CC) has retained its high position in the international Global Competition Review (GCR) rating for the fifth year in a row.

The CC received the high three stars rating, moreover, having upward or growth-oriented tendency.

In the overview of 37 world’s leading competition authorities, which were included in the GCR rating of 2019, it was emphasized, that the CC has the smallest budget among all evaluated authorities, but, according to the opinion of surveyed independent lawyers - compared to the rest of the Baltics, the competition Authority of Latvia is the most active and the most competent”.

It has to be noted, that the small budget of the authority, which promotes the high rate of staff turnover due to insufficient remuneration, was also criticised by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the European Commission, recommending the government to act finally for the competition supervisor to be able to fulfil its functions efficiently.
